The perfect base for your ultralight tent
Updated: Aug 23
Your ultralight tent is a valuable investment. To maximize its lifespan and protect it from ground moisture and abrasion, a suitable groundsheet is essential. But which one fits your specific tent model?
That's where XFOIL comes in – your ultralight, tough and fully waterproof groundsheet. We believe XFOIL is currently the strongest cross-linked film on the market. At under 20 g/m², XFOIL adds almost no weight to your pack while giving your tent floor essential protection.
Find your matching XFOIL: the compatibility guide

¹ Coverage note: "Full width" means the maximum tent floor width is 160 cm or less. "Partial width coverage" means the maximum tent floor width is greater than 160 cm; XFOIL covers the central area, but the outermost edges remain uncovered. Length coverage refers to the stated XFOIL size. ² For tarps without a fixed floor (Deschutes, Gatewood Cape), the sheet serves as the floor area. Compatibility here often refers to the combination with an optional inner tent (NetTent) or the desired covered area.
How to use this table:
Simply look up your tent model. The "Recommended XFOIL size(s)" column gives you our size recommendation. Please pay close attention to the "Coverage note¹" column:
Full width & length: Perfect! The XFOIL sheet covers the entire tent floor.
Partial width coverage: Important for tents wider than 1.6 metres. Our sheet reliably protects the main sleeping area in the centre. The outermost centimetres of the tent floor at the edges remain exposed. For many users this is entirely sufficient, since the primary protection is needed where you lie and store your gear.
Extra length needed/recommended: For especially long tents, or if you want extra room for gear under the sheet, we recommend our 3-metre size.
Important: Is your tent shorter than the recommended XFOIL size? No problem – you can easily trim XFOIL to the exact length you need with a pair of scissors.
If in doubt, we always recommend measuring your tent's floor dimensions yourself and comparing them against our XFOIL dimensions (1.6 m width; 2.4 m, 3 m or 6 m length).
Which XFOIL size is right for you?
1.6 x 2.4 m: The standard for most one-person and many narrower two-person tents. This size is chosen so it covers at least the core area of almost every common ultralight tent, and often provides a full fit.
1.6 x 3 m: Ideal for longer tents, taller users, or if you want more room for your gear under the sheet.
1.6 x 6 m: The best choice for DIY projects if you want to cut several sheets (for example for two different tents or as a spare), cover a very large tarp, or simply want the lowest price per square metre.
An XFOIL groundsheet gives your ultralight tent the protection it deserves – light, tough and precisely sized. Use our guide to find the perfect size for your next adventure.
