Ultralight tarp made of xfoil (MYOG / DIY)
Updated: Sep 30

The tarp for all occasions! Whether 2.4 m or 3 m long, you stay under 100 g total weight and are still protected from wind and weather. You finish your XFOIL with 4-6 guy points (see chapter guy points), appropriate lines and pegs, and are prepared for most situations. Whether 2.4 m or 3 m, the length depends on your expected use. For ground sleepers as well as for short hammocks (Brazilian), a shorter one may already be sufficient if you want to use it as an A-frame or asymmetrically over the hammock.
To do this, attach a guy point to each of the four corners (see other blog post), and you can also attach one to each of the two long sides (depending on the area of use / weather). It's up to you whether you install the lines permanently (e.g. for the hammock) or just attach loops that are then hooked directly into the pegs.
How to make the guy points is shown in our guide Attach guy points, and which tape holds on film is covered in our adhesive tape guide. If you want to build a larger tarp with a centre pole, the Penta-Mid tutorial is a good starting point. And if condensation forms under your tarp, XFOIL fly is a breathable film option.
